Blog of a sleepy dormouse
Recently, Tom and I were discussing swan species we’d seen, and I dug out some photos of a pair of swans I’d seen in Solihull in January 2006. I realised I hadn’t ever identified them, so with help from Tom and nice people on Flickr I found out. It seems that they were hybrids - Mute Swan (Cygnus olor) x Whooper Swan (Cygnus cygnus). Apparently these are quite rare - shame I didn’t have the knowledge to appreciate it when I saw them in real life!
There aren’t many photos of them around, so I thought I should add mine to the world =)

Hi Lilian,
I came across your website by accident when searching for a picture of a knobbed hornbill, which i found in your old website i guess, and i took some time to browse at your photography and paintings! Great pieces of work i must say! I am also 23, living in Singapore, born and bred there and studying biology in university. Looks like we have quite a bit in common too, except that i am a fan of strictly asian wildlife and i spend much of my time searching and studying for wildlife in south east asia, especially malaysia which is my second home. Some of the animals i find special and memorable are the Tarsiers in Sulawesi, wild orang utan in borneo, Wallace’s standardwing bird of paradise in the moluccas and stuff like Philippine Eagle, pittas, jumping spiders, flying lemurs and stuff! Do take a look at my humble little wildlife gallery and comment too! Hope to hear from you too!
Best Regards

Awwww thank you so much for taking the time to look at all my stuff, I’m flattered! Wow, sounds like you get to study pretty spectacular wildlife, puts my swans and voles to shame!
Hey - I’m half Malaysian, don’t know if I mentioned that anywhere =P When I get the chance (money) to go back over there I’m planning to visit the orang utans, as our family friend is involved in a rescue centre =)
Hey Lilian,
Thanks for visiting my site, hope you enjoyed, oh boy, its it such a mess and my pictures and text are all over the place..Really enjoyed browsing your photo galleries too, i really like that cute photo of a mallard stretching her necks and wings, very nice! You are really talented! Does that mean you have direct malaysian kin if you are half malaysian? thats cool! Do you get to visit Malaysia alot? which parts? My paternal kin are malaysian too..
Oh ya, we’ve got a glis here in SIngapore too, ours is the treeshrew, tupaia glis and sort of look like a dormouse…
Your site is great - sorry for writing the same thing twice in your guestbook! Your drawings and photos are fantastic =) You have good taste in books too!
Thanks, I’m glad you like my photos - the duck was very cooperative =)
My mum is Malaysian, she grew up near KL, so we have family over there. I’ve been to Malaysia 6 times, but not since 1999 - stayed in Subang Jaya, and went to Fraser’s Hill (yes I saw your photos!) and Penang.
Ha, don’t worry its alright. Anyway its really nice to know friends from halfway across the world with similar hobbies! i wished i could take more photos like you, but i don’t have enough to get a decent camera, so i’ll have to make do with the pens and brushes. Subang! Thats in KL, thats near my home in KL too! You gotta come back to Malaysia more often, there are fantastic amounts of wildlife everywhere..recently i found this very nice place called ampang forest with lots of wildlife, my uncle n dad used to hang around there when they were young. U should see it if u come!
