Wildlife news: Farmland birds

Alarm sounded for farmland birds
Widespread farmland species including the skylark, grey partridge and bullfinch are continuing to decline…

I think that DEFRA’s newly introduced Environmental Stewardship scheme could well settle down and produce results over the coming years - small changes in farmland habitat management can make a big difference (see Kemerton Conservation Trust).

A general question: why the name “glis glis” - the scientific name for the dormouse, isn’t it?

That’s right - edible dormouse =) There’s a vague explanation in my very first post, An Introduction… but mostly I just like the name =P

Hello Li-Li, very interested in your site. The Whooper x Mute cross is fascinating. May I enquire where you did your degree? I lecture in Environmental Biology myself.

Hello! Thank you for visiting, I’m happy that you find my site interesting! It may not get many visitors, but I love that it can connect me with people with similar interests. Where do you lecture? I did my degree at Southampton University.
